Is it a good book? Yes, there was a lot of meaning in this book and talked about real world things like what happens to young girls in India. Lakshmi has to make a very big decision----- should she stay and help her family or should she risk everything for a chance to reclaim her life? I love what happens to the end of the book. You’ll just have to read to find out the answer to the decisions.
Would you recommend it? I would most definitely recommend this book. It has such deep thought within it and deals with so much that goes on every day. If you like real-world situations. This book would be great for you.
What did you like about the book? Lakshmi is just a 13 year old girl who is having to deal with her family’s crops getting washed away from the Himalayan monsoons. Her dad says that she must get a job and support her family.
What did you dislike? I really dislike when her dad introduces her to a glamorous stranger who tells her she will find her a job as a maid in the city. She journeys to India so she can help her family only to learn the unthinkably terrible truth: she has been sold into prostitution. What family would want that for their daughter no matter how poor you are. It just sounds wrong to me.
Tell us your thoughts about the book. This book was a real eye opener for me. Knowing how lucky I am not to have the problems most countries do. I have my freedom and I’m able to be who I want to be instead of having someone do it for me. I would love for this book to be read I school for English since it has such a big part in real-world situations.
