Book Review: The River

The Book: The River by Gary Paulsen
Reviewer: Kavrin M.

Was it a good book? Yes! Great writer- he writes in a way that the story is like a movie in my head. The way Gary Paulsen puts things in each of his books are great.

Would you recommend it? Yes! If you like adventure and not knowing what’s going to happen next so you have to keep reading on, this is the book for you.

What did you like about it? Everything! How Brian explains everything to how the food tasted when he was in the wild then how it tasted when he got back home. Basically I liked everything from beginning to end.

What did you dislike? I really didn’t like when they asked Brian to go to the wilderness again, after he almost died after being there the first time, but it left me wanting to keep reading and find out what’s going to happen next.

Tell us your thoughts about the book. It kind of sucks that I’ve finished the first and second book, but then again I’m ready to see what happens in the next series.

Book Review: Mary, Bloody Mary

The Book: Mary, Bloody Mary by Carolyn Meyer
Reviewer: Joe P.

Was it a good book? It was a kind of a good book because the beginning was boring but when I was starting to go to the end of the book it was getting a little better.

Would you recommend it? It was a little romantic book because in the book they got married and the father had a baby with the mistress.

What did you like about it? Because when I read the book I knew it was a true book so that’s why I thought it was going to be a good book.

What did you dislike? I didn’t like the book because when I read it the book was kind of boring and there wasn’t that much going on in the book because I thought there was going to be more action in it.

Tell us your thoughts about the book. The story was a little sad because her father abandons her mother and then marries his mistress then has a child with her so Mary begins to lose faith in herself.

Book Review: Tears of a Tiger

The Book: Tears of a Tiger by Sharon Draper
Reviewer: T'Shalla J.

Was it a good book? Yes, the author Sharon M. Draper is a wonderful writer. She writes about teens having problems and she is really makes you understand what’s happening.

Would you recommend it? Yes, I recommend this book to you. There is a lot of High School teen that you relate to, like: romance, drama and other emotions.

What did you like about it? How she talks about African Americans because you hardly find a book about African Americans.

What did you dislike? There is foul language sometimes.

Tell us your thoughts about the book. This story is very sad like the started to the end, so be prepared, and I hope you enjoy the book.

Book Review: Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Final Straw

The Book: Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw by Jeff Kinney

When his dad wants Greg to “man up” by not staying home and going out to make new friends. But Rodrick, Greg’s brother, interferes Greg and pushes him around.

What did you dislike? There is nothing I dislike about this book, because it’s a funny book and easily understood.

Book Review: Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul: The Real Deal

The Book: Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul: The Real Deal
Reviewer: Brittany Z.

Was it a good book? Yes. I’ve read chicken soup books and this one just fits the title “real deal”. Teens in my age group writing about their lives its interesting and to find stories that relate to me and my life it makes the book great.

Would you recommend it? Yes. Only if you love listening, well reading, other people’s lives and how they live.

What did you like about it? I like that each person has a story to tell whether it is short or long they have something to write about in their lives that happened.

What did you dislike? I don’t dislike the book. The only part I don’t like is that each chapter is similar and after a while the stories start to sound the same as one another.

Tell us your thoughts about the book. This book is great there are kids my age telling about their everyday lives and what they have gone through. I love that while reading I thought about my life, how I could relate to most of the stories. I could see myself while reading and having that in my head while I was reading was great to have and made the book all that more fun to read!!

Book Review: Ghostopolis

The Book: Ghostopolis by Doug TenNapel
Reviewer: Cortez D.

Was it a good book? Yes! Doug TenNapel is a good writer and drawer. I don’t know if he did any other books because this is my first time reading his books. I love comic books but this one was the best. He made it like a real book.

Would you recommend it? Yes! If you really likes comedy and action this book is for you. This book has everything in it.

What did you like about it? Really, I like every part of this book. It’s really funny. That’s one of the main reasons I like it a lot.

What did you dislike? The ending was boring. I wanted his grandpa to see his daughter. And the action ended too quickly.

Tell us your thoughts about the book. I am glad he is making more books because he is a great writer and drawer. I am going to tell more people about this book so they can read it.

Book Review: Jinx

The Book: Jinx by Meg Cabot

Was it a good book? Yes, it was a fantastic book! Meg Cabot (the author) writes other series like the Princess Diaries, The Mediator and several others.

Would you recommend it? Yes! This book is filled with a lot of mystery, romance, adventure and jokes about being in high school and having a lot of bad luck.

What did you like about it? I liked how the author had this mysterious older dude like Jinx, even though she was bad luck.

The Book: Dragon Ball Z, volume 8 by Akira Toriyama
Reviewer: Michael S.

Was it a good book? I think Dragon Ball Z vol 8 is a good book because there is a lot of action and it keeps you on your toes.

Would you recommend it? I recommend this book to who ever like action and suspense. This is not a book for people who do like to read about fairy tale.

What did you like about it? Goku is finally here and Kuririn, Gohan and Vegta have to hold up till he lands. The Ginyu force is the strongest thing our heroes have seen before, they don’t stand a chance. Even the mighty Vegta struggles to hold up to the Ginyu force attacks. Is there any hope for them? Will the training that Goku has been though be enough for him to beat the undefeated Ginyu force?
